According to the Vietnam National Tourism Administration 370,000 tourists visited Vietnam in the year's first month. Many more tourists are expected for the Tet, or Lunar New Year Festival.

Customs in Vietnam seize smuggled wildlife

ON Wednesday, January 24, Vietnamese customs officers seized five tons of turtles and two tons of wild snakes. The bill of lading labeled the shipment as domestically grown frogs imported from Thailand. The animals were on their way to China where they would likely be served as delicacies.

Egg sales drop due to cancer scare

Chicken and duck egg sales dropped radically on Monday. The department of science and technology in Ho Chi Minh City reported that large amounts of a carcinogenic had been found in sample batches. Several of the eggs tested contained 12,000 micrograms of sudan and any amount over 500 is unsafe.

Two-thirds of Vietnam's 33 phones per 100 people are mobile. Mobile phones are helping Vietnam to grow. And the Vietnamese government is encouraging competition between the six mobile carriers. It's all a part of Vietnam's move toward a market economy.

The first winner is The Sheraton Saigon Hotel and Towers in Ho Chi Minh City, because of its close proximity to everything tourists are interested in seeing. The other winner is the Hotel Sofitel Metropole Hanoi, because it's different from other hotels.
