A 68-story skyscraper, designed in the shape of a lotus flower is scheduled to grace the Vietnamese skyline by 2009, thus signaling a move by the powers of commerce to transform the appearance of this country into one resembling the West.

Four Vietnamese poets Hoang Cam, Le Dat, Phung Quan and Tran Dan were part of a movement which criticised life under communism. Now 50 years after they were imprisoned and their works banned, they are to be awarded a prize by the Vietnamese government
